Writer, Poet, and Artist
William A. Neely was born and raised in Vancleave, Mississippi, on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. A writer, poet, artist, and lifelong creator, he has always been drawn to storytelling in all its forms. Whether it is a book, a poem, a photograph, a video, or an idea that suddenly refuses to leave him alone, William loves the process of making something out of nothing.
His work moves between poetry, memoir, fiction, humor, visual storytelling, and whatever else happens to inspire him. Outside of his own work, William is a lifelong lover of movies, music, and television, with a particular affection for pop culture and icons like Britney Spears and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Those influences often find their way into the way he thinks about storytelling, emotion, image, drama, and performance.
He is the author of Sad in a Playhouse and Life as a Sweater, with more projects currently taking shape behind the scenes. William’s work is often deeply personal, sometimes dark, occasionally ridiculous, and always honest. Much of it explores love, loss, memory, identity, survival, and the strange little moments that somehow end up meaning everything. He believes creativity does not have to fit neatly into one category. A poem can become a photograph. A memory can become a story. A joke can turn unexpectedly heartbreaking. An ordinary moment can become something worth keeping.
Still rooted on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, William continues to build the ever-expanding world of Once You Go Willy Creations, one book, story, image, and completely unhinged idea at a time.
